Hi All,

Thank you for the invite from Twitter Ali!

I run a dating events company called FUSE, (we organise singles events such as wine tasting, networking, beer tasting, balls and so on.) and I always have the same problem: A lack of men!

Women's tickets always sell out well in advance and I believe many of them are on-line searching for such things. But how do I find and 'capture' the men??

I have tried PR, magazine advertising, on-line links, facebook, direct e-mails...

Can anyone offer advice on marketing strategies which work particularly well toward the male species?

Thank you,

Kerry :-)

Hi Kerry, I had the same problem with an Events Company I setup initially targetted at the singles market. I found that women were so keen to try anything, however men were put off by the 'singles' element. If you ever wish to talk and brainstorm about building your male database, only too happy to talk with you. Regards Sally

Hi Kerry It's always a challenge to attract men to these kind of events. Dating services as a rule are usually far more popular with girls than guys. I used to work for Playboy TV and it was very hard marketing to the male market that wanted the service, but didn't want anyone to know they subscribed to it! It would be useful to have more details about what you've done so far. Then perhaps I can offer some suggestions. Janine (MARKETING & PR GURU for MOTIVATING MUM)

Hi Janine, Thanks for your reply. In terms of marketing until now, I have had some good coverage in the media, this seemed to work well at attracting men. I list the events on other promotional sites and I'm also building a following on facebook and twitter. Once people have been to an event I am able to market to them via e-mail and it seems once they have been to one, they are happy to go to another! I also think the price is important to men and the type of event. For that reason I am conscious of what I call them - rather than having singles or dating in the title I simply call them Barbecues/ Wine Festivals etc. I have tried posters and flyers, these don't appear to work as well however. I am very keen to develop the events for the 40+ as I feel this is a real niche but again finding them and convincing them to come along is a far more difficult task than I first imagined! I really thank you for taking the time to read this and look forward to any words of wisdom you might have! Kindest, Kerry

Hi again Kerry It sounds like what you are doing so far is on the right track. Your message is key – good to be more subtle, talk about the event first, then they can “make acquaintances”/meet like-minded people. It’s great your are doing PR/social media - both excellent and cost-effective routes. What about promoting your events through posting your comment on other blogs that might be relevant to your target market? Communications that are as targeted as possible are key. What about linking up with online companies. If your customers are interested in wine, food etc, target relevant sites. Not sure how big your database is, but what about email list swaps? How about doing things like refer a friend i.e. if you come to an event and bring a friend/s, then you get a free ticket to the next event. Or if you introduce someone to your events you get a free ticket to the next event. Hope this helps. Good luck. Janine
