THIS WAS REPOSTED BY ALLI AS IT WAS IN THE WRONG FORUM CATEGORY:

Can anyone help me with SEO?

I am a mum of two and have recently launched my new company www.signaturesilver.co.uk

I have now manged to get listed on google, but what I do is quite specialist and there isn't a great awareness of my product out there.

I have had different advice from different people which has left me not really knowing what to do next.

Brief details of my business are: I will be mainly internet based, I have tried selling at markets but don't think its the right place.  I have tried local marketing which again hasn't really yeilded much business.  I also have an ad in this months vogue, which also as yet hasn't brought much business.  Also been doing as much networking as possible.

So obviously I need to concentrate on the SEO along side the things I have been doing above.  The trouble is I don't have any money available to alter my website, as a lot of people keep suggesting.  My website has not been built to enable me to offer people recipricol links, so thats not helped.  I am updating the information on the site regually, think I have all the keywords in there, I network, I have a blog, I have offers running and am now at a loss as to what I can do to improve my ranking? oh also I have started a Pay per click ad today.

I am currently on page 11 under the search term 'fingerprint jewellery' but this isn't good enough, need to be on page 1 or 2 really.

Please let me know if you can help, all the dead ends are starting to wear me down!

Thanks Hannah

Thanks for your post. SEO is a slow and delicate process and there is no quick win to getting on page one, so be weary of anyone that can guarantee that elusive top spot.

There are a few essential and free things that you can do to get you started -

1. Get your business and website listed on as many free business directories as possible. Here is a selection that i often recommend -

Free Index
 http://www.freeindex.co.uk
Touch Local
 http://www.touchlocal.com
Qype
 http://www.qype.co.uk
BT Tradespace
 http://www.bttradespace.com/
Thomsonlocal
 http://www.thomsonlocal.com/
Yell
 http://www.yell.com/
Kyotee
 http://kyotee.co.uk/
Scoot
 http://www.scoot.co.uk/
UK Small Business Directory
 http://www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk/
Business Line
 http://www.businesslinedirectory.com/

As well as any jewellery-related directories or associations you can find online.

This will ensure a good few inbound links to your site - the key to getting noticed by google.

2. You need to make sure your page title contains your keywords and in the right order. You currently have -

Signature Silver | Jewellery to treasure  | Unique Silver Fingerprint Jewellery | Welcome

Although the logical way to have a page title, it's not essentially the way google sees it. I'd recommend having your keywords first (and a few more of them) so it should read something like -

Silver Fingerprint Jewellery | Fingerprint Jewellery to treasure | Fingerprint Jewellery by Signature Silver

Not the prettiest page title but definitely more effective.

3. Optimise your Page Description tag. At the moment you have this -

"Signature Silver brings you unique Fingerprint Jewellery. Our Pure Silver (99.9%) fingerprint charms are individually handcrafted, allowing us to offer you a tailor made product. We take your specification and produce the perfect gift. Whether it be for yourself, mum, dad, husband or wife."

The character limit is actually 255 and anything beyond that isn't even displayed in search results. Google can even penalise for going beyond this limit. Use short sharp phrases containing your keywords - not full sentences. Start with your main keywords "Fingerprint jewellery…."

4. Get your site on the google Local Business Centre. When you login to your google account click on the Local Business Centre link. Or open this link -

www.google.com/local/add

It's a great way to get your site right under google's nose and an opportunity to pepper some keywords throughout your details.

5. Post Comments on Blogs. Search for blogs to do with jewellery design and other jewellery related topics and post comments. Many blogs allow you to leave your website url. This could potentially act as an inbound link.

Here is one i found as an example -

http://wendybrandes.com/blog/

6. Make use of headings on your homepage. Google gives more priority to keywords in headings. At the moment your homepage doesn't seem to have any headings or sub-headings. You should ideally have an html H1 tag (http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_hn.asp) with your keywords 'Fingerprint Jewellery'.

7. Include keywords in your footer. Your footer can be a valuable place for squeezing in a few more VALID keywords. There is a phrase called 'keyword stuffing' and that's pointlessly repeating your keywords throughout your body copy. So you've got to look for other places you can feature your keywords - the footer is a great example of this.

Once you implement all the above I can guarantee you'll see an improvement. There's no reason who you can't reach page one, especially with the niche market you're in.

I know it's a lot to take in but these are all simple things that you can achieve for potentially NO cost.

Hope that helps.

Alex
