Business Mentoring Guidelines | Mums in Business
Mentors will:
- Ask the mentee what they expect of them
- Will question and challenge but not give advice or dictate what a client would do
- Offer expertise, ways of finding out
- Support and encourage
- Share their own experiences
- Use subtle guidance but ensures the mentee makes all the decisions
- Be interested in the mentee and seeing them succeed
- Not use judgement, stays neutral and does not blame
- Admit when they don't know and offer suggestions for where or who to ask
- Gives constructive and positive feedback
- Not do most of the talking
- Turn up, prepared, to sessions on time
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Share their widsdom, whether you want it or not!
Mentees will:
- Determine what they want to achieve from the session before it starts
- Be open and honest
- Take responsibility for all decisions made as a result of the session
- Understand that a mentor is not an expert in every area of business and cannot be expected to be
