Happy January – Spring is Coming! January 14th, 2013
The newspapers and press are full of dismal January stories, and facebook is full of dismal weather and snow (or lack of it). Innocent drinks have a poster campaign that we need to “Beat January” (by using their product of course), and of course to add insult to injury it’s Christmas credit card bill and tax return season. So no wonder everybody is feeling gloomy and down.
And yet, somehow, I just don’t get it.
I am definitely a SAD sufferer – don’t anybody talk to me in November when the clocks first go back, the nights get so long and the last of the warm weather disappears. At that time of year I get seriously down, and reach for hot drinks and comfort food. I would honestly hibernate if it were possible for humans to do such a thing.

But once the shortest day is over, and particularly once the Christmas season is over, the decorations are away and life returns to normal, I can already start to feel the reawakening. The nights are getting longer, the worst is over and spring is on its way. Can you feel it yet, because I sure can…

I honestly feel better at this time of year. Maybe its the two weeks rest over Christmas or maybe it is just that little extra bit of daylight, and the sight of little bulb heads peeking through the dead soil, but I can already feel the beginnings of a surge that will carry me all the way into summertime.

For those of you that still need convincing, with the continuing cold and greyness, just remember that up above the clouds the sky is still blue. And it won’t be long till daffodil and blossom season again. Our loved ones will serenade us on Valentines Day, and our children on Mother’s Day – then of course there is the big chocfest of Easter to look forward to .

So I say a big Phooey to dismal old January. you can’t dampen my spirits – I am a child of the Spring! Who is with me?

Hi I always get a bit of a boost when we get past the shortest day I know it’s only a psychological boost. As a friend keeps reminding me a saying he likes The days get longer and the cold gets stronger. Don’t know about you but this is a depressing saying as we go through January.

I must admit I don’t mind January but I do love it when the first snowdrops arrive because I feel that Spring is on it’s way and I am with you in that I do love the Springtime.

We will soon see the first of the ‘Daffs’ and then you know spring is close!! Your pictures really cheered me up. I LOVE all flowers but most of all I love spring flowers. Think I might pop to M&S for a bunch of tulips to keep me company this afternoon.

I don’t understand why everyone is so grumpy. It takes more muscels to frown than to smile. Smiling is infectious ! Just going to make a video clip about smiling – see if I can get some others smiling – it costs nothing!!
